Reliable fiber optic connections in demanding environments
Dortmund/Germany, 21 March 2025. With the new Metal LC connector, the company tde – trans data elektronik GmbH presents a robust LC duplex connector with a metal housing. It is particularly suitable for use under harsh conditions, for example in industry, the defence sector or in science environments. The connector can be used with standard commercial cables as well as with special cables for industrial and military-tactical applications. It is available in single mode PC (Physical Contact), single mode APC (Angled Physical Contact) and multimode and is characterized by a superior pull strength between connector and cable. In addition, the metal locking mechanism offers high tensile strength when plugged, especially in combination with metal transceivers or adapters.
Connectors must work reliably at any times – even under adverse conditions. Particularly in industrial environments or in the defence industry, extreme temperatures or mechanical stresses such as shocks and vibrations can quickly push sensitive connectors to their limits. To enable durable and secure fiber optic connections in such areas, tde now offers an LC duplex connector with a particularly robust metal housing.
„Industry, science and defence put the highest demands on cabling and connectors. But this is precisely where reliable and fail-safe connections are of crucial importance,“ says Andre Engel, Managing Director of tde. „With its special design and robust metal housing, the Metal LC connector was developed specifically for applications in these harsh environments.“
Top performance under extreme conditions
The Metal LC connector is fully compliant with the IEC 61754-20 standard and RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances). It offers heat resistance up to 135 °C, improved resistance to shocks and vibrations and reduced susceptibility to wear. It is compatible with both industrial and military cables. Its metal locking mechanism offers high tensile strength when plugged, especially in combination with metal transceivers or adapters.
These properties, combined with its low-loss, stable performance, make it the ideal choice for long-term use in demanding environments. In addition to industry and defence, it is suitable for aerospace, marine, broadcast, FTTx and FTTA as well as test and measurement. The Metal LC connector is available in three versions – multimode, single mode PC (physical contact) and single mode APC (angled physical contact).
Impressive values for insertion and return loss in multimode and single mode variants
In the single mode version (9/125 UPC), the connector has a typical insertion loss of 0.1 dB and a maximum insertion loss of 0.2 dB. The typical return loss is more than 55 dB. The multimode variant (OM4) shows a typical insertion loss of 0.08 dB with a maximum value of 0.15 dB. The typical return loss is more than 25 dB. Both variants contain a premium SM ferrule.
The Metal LC connector is available in combination with Mil-Tac cables from 3.5 mm to 5 mm.
